Tantou [Horii_Hideaki] (Mikasa dagger)　

特徴：堀井俊秀は本名を堀井兼吉、初銘は兼明、明治37年に堀井胤吉子、堀井雄胤明の門人となり、明治44年胤明の養子，女婿となる。後、堀井一門の三代目となり大正2年に刀剣保存会より水心子正秀の秀の字をとった秀明の名を贈られる、大正7年に日本製鋼室蘭工業所の招聘により入社し渡道明治37年8月10日、日露戦争における連合艦隊の旗艦であった戦艦「三笠」は黄海海戦で後部二連装主砲の一門を破壊された。 昭和3年より7年にかけて、当時の名工：堀井秀明とその一門が砲身の残鉄を加えた記念刀を製作し、水交社（日本海軍将校の親睦・研究団体）を通じて販売された。三笠短剣は甲(皇国興廃在此一戦の彫がある)と乙があり、甲は973本、乙は451本制作された、近年は海外のコレクターからも人気があり数が減ってきております。

This tanto is Hideaki Horii's tanto that incorporated the steel of the battleship Mikasa, Admiral Togo's flagship, during the Russo-Japanese War of 1905.
The Mikasa is Japan's most historic ship, it being a pre-dreadnaught, built by Vickers, and at that time as good as any British battleship
The plan to use the steel was the plan of the Naval Officers' Organization Suikosha, and the blades were made at the Muroran forge. Hideaki took up the task and incorporated a small amount of Mikasa steel into the traditionally made blade.There are two types of Mikasa tanto made, A (with carving) and B, with 973 A and 451 B, which were sold through Suikosha.
